Story of the successful recovery of Gunner Gideon Obbes deep in Angola (Operation Savannah) 40 KM past Novo Redondo on the 24th November 1975 by Eland Crew Commander L/Cpl Giles Parker

Ops Savannah: Brothers in Arms – the real story


In December 2021 we received an email about one of our members Veteran Giles Parker, SAMVOA.


For many years, another person had received his HC for actions during this event, however those that were directly involved rarely got any recognition. Some Military Veteran organisations were not prepared to entertain a new or corrected story. So after hundreds of emails, affidavits, stories and several calls including a recorded interviews it has been published by Savanah – please see attached.

Veteran Godfrey Giles organised interviews with Veteran Giles Parker & Veteran Johan Uys to tell their story
