I founded Bushat Day in 2014 for South African veterans overseas to remember our service, our mates and those who never came home. Twelve years later, it is an international tradition. Put on your boshoed and raise one for the lasses and lads. Pro Patria. SA Marines — ALL THE WAY!

When I left RSA I had two balsakke so I left all my nutria behind. I miss it terribly. So I wear this khaki mislukke ding but I do want to show honour and remembrance to the men of 24th Field Regiment.

I didn't lose any friends during my National Service, but my heart aches for the families of those who were lost. May we never forget, and I will always be proud for having served in the SADF.

​

This cap takes me back to my days in the South African Army at 11 Commando, which became the SA Intelligence School at Diskobolos, Kimberley, in 1982. Today I salute my fallen comrades and remember their courage, service and sacrifice. Whatever history may say, I will remember the men.

I only have 2 photos of my Boshoed and I. 1986, Basics, Alpha Base, Heidelberg. I remember many things yet it was in the middle of winter, on Alpha we only had corrugated bungalows with a 1/2 metre open gap between top of wall and roof. We froze there. Our Browns would freeze on the washing lines

I did my basic training in 75/75 at 6 Sai Grahamstown did 3 boder camps and joined the Pioneers in 79 and worked there as a store man and was placed on the National Reserves so no more camps.

My brand new 1981 Boshoed! The RSM objected to my old one with the burn hole in it from fire bucket from fire duty.

26 August Remembrance Day - Proud to remember my service in the SADF Commandos on the Angolan border. The experience taught me courage, discipline, and the value of true comradeship. Today I wear my Boshoed in honour of those who served alongside me, those who made sacrifices, and those who are no longer with us.
